August Events in Truckee Tahoe

 

Happy August! Summer is still going strong, with warm weather, outdoor adventures, and so many fun local events. We've picked these six events because they are great for the whole family and involve lots of learning, history, and some of the best food and drinks in the area.

DINE for a cause on the 7th at Stella’s 5th Annual Foodie Event and Fundraiser! Enjoy a meal at the beautiful Stella restaurant in Cedar Sports Hotel that will delight your senses and raise funds for Project MANA. Project MANA’s mission is to help reduce the incidence of hunger and its detrimental effects upon our community. This year’s event will include a live auction and a paddle raise. WATCH the Perseid Meteor Shower from Northstar on the 12th. A special evening of meteor watching will occur on Sunday, August 12th, 2018 during the annual Perseid Meteor Shower. Start off the night with a Cosmic Concert, featuring music and poems from Tony Berendsen's new album, "Inevitability". Then join the Tahoe Star Tours team as they lead you on an amazing journey of the meteors above from the Dark Skies Cosmoarium. You will get to learn about the meteor shower and view the amazing spectacle through high powered Celestron telescopes! SIP on tasty beers at the 17th Annual Brews, Jazz, and Funk Festival at Squaw Valley August 11-12th. The event is hosted by FiftyFifty Brewing Co. and will feature 20 breweries with 35 different beers on tap! As well as incredible beer, there will be an awesome line-up of music both days. Even better, all proceeds from the event benefit the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe. Find music schedule, participating breweries, and more information on Squaw’s website.

TRAVEL to a different time with the Sierra Speaker Series on the 18th. This segment of the Sierra State Park’s series features Tahoe City local Rodger Huff and his latest book, Tales and Towns Along the Truckee. The presentation will take you on a journey where you will encounter ghosts of people and places that no longer exist and learn fascinating stories and local legends. If you are interested in this area’s past, you will thoroughly enjoy Roger’s presentation. Learn more on the Sierra State Parks website.

LISTEN to the Lake Tahoe Music Festival on Donner Lake’s West End Beach on the 24th. Bring a picnic, a blanket or low backed chair, and watch the sunset over Donner Lake as this performance by the Academy Orchestra highlights Shakespearean’s Midsummer Night’s Dream ballet (Overture 12’, Intermezzo no.5 4’, Nocturne no.7 7’, Scherzo no.1 5’) 28’, with a performance by the Lake Tahoe Dance Collective and with narration by Robert Sicular. Get tickets and more information online

PARTY at the 44th Annual Truckee Professional Rodeo the 25-26th. There will be a kids day at the rodeo, BBQ, live performances, and a Western Dance. Kids can learn to rope, run stick-horse races, meet and brush real horses, and learn about rodeo from the rodeo queens. After, the whole family can enjoy rodeo performances and delicious food. The best part is that this event is free. More information can be found here
