Best Winter Dates in Truckee and Tahoe

It wouldn’t be a getaway to Truckee and Tahoe if your days weren’t spent outside – why should your dates be any different? While a ski day is an awesome way to bond with your significant other, here are three different ways to optimize the winter in Truckee!

Date #1: Ice Skating and a Picnic

Enjoy a winter classic: ice skating! The ice rink in the Northstar Village and the seasonal Truckee Ice Rink at Truckee Regional Park are two awesome local places to get your skates out on the ice. The Ice Rink at Northstar has skates for rent, cabanas with fire pits, and often have live music.  The Truckee Ice Rink is a community staple for figure skating, hockey, broomball and more. It is open-air and weather dependent.  Bring along some hot chocolate and a nice picnic to enjoy next to the fire pit after you are done skating.

Date #2: Dinner and Snowshoe Stargazing

Join Tahoe Adventure Company on a Snowshoe Star Tour. The tour starts with a romantic guided snowshoe session under the setting sun and ends with a tour of the brilliant night sky with a professional astronomer. Swoon much? The tour serves snacks and hot chocolate, so plan on a proper dinner afterwards. Truckee has some pretty amazing eats; Eater SF names Pianeta, Truckee Tavern, and Fifty-Fifty Brewing as the best food in Truckee.

Date #3: Adventurous Views of Tahoe

Take the day to get to the most beautiful views of Lake Tahoe. Start at Lake Tahoe Snowmobiling, on Highway 267. With tours on groomed trails, all ability levels are welcome to join. The guided tour will take you above North Shore for stunning birds-eye views of the lake. Post-tour, take a drive on the concrete roads around the lake to Tahoe City. Stop to enjoy a cocktail and the view at Gar Woods, Jakes On The Lake, or continue back to Truckee and stop at the cozy River Ranch Lodge (snag a seat by the fireplace!).
