What's Happening This December in Truckee

 

Check out the December events in Truckee and Lake Tahoe. 

December is here and that means Downtown Truckee is sparkling with lights and snow has blanketed the mountains. Truckee/Tahoe is host to many family-friendly holiday events from crafts and singing to the Nutcracker and snowshoeing. And, of course, plenty of Santa Sightings. 

Tahoe Film Fest in Truckee

CATCH → three days of the Tahoe Film Fest at the Truckee High School Auditorium, Northstar Village Cinema, and Incline Village Cinema the 1st through the 3rd. The festival will show a plethora of films from around the world with subject matters that start with the environment (and a Jane Goodall documentary) and end with Curious George.  Get the schedule and more information on their website and get your tickets here.

SING → read poetry, tell jokes, perform a skit, or whatever makes your heart happy with Tahoe Truckee School of Music for their Open Mic Night at Art Truckee on the 16th. All ages and levels welcome, so don’t be shy! More information can be found on Facebook.

WATCH → the Twisted Nutcracker and the Tale of the Rat King on December 18th and 19th at Squaw Valley’s Merry Wonderland. Truckee Dance Factory will take the beloved holiday piece and twist it up. Guests are invited to participate at intermission for a special prize from Santa himself! Drinks and snacks will be available for purchase. More information can be found on their website.

Christmas in Truckee

GET CRAFTSY → and make pine cone fire starters with Atelier at the Ritz Carlton Lake Tahoe on the 23rd. These wax dipped pine cones will make great stocking stuffers or just another excuse to cozy up to the fire. Bring the kids along and have fun choosing from different essential oils and salts to dip your pinecones in. More information can be found on their website

SNOWSHOE → under the moonlight at Alpine Meadows on the 26th and 27th. Climb to the mid-mountain Chalet with an intimate group, enjoying the silver glow of the moon on the empty slopes of Alpine. When you get to the Chalet, a hot, Alps-inspired meal will be served. More information can be found on their website

Holiday Season in Truckee

SHOP → in Downtown Truckee on the first three Fridays of December for Festive Fridays. Shops will stay open late and there will be free parking after 4pm thanks to the generous Truckee Downtown Merchants Association, Town of Truckee, and the Truckee Chamber of Commerce. HANG OUT → with Santa! The jolly ol’ fellow with make tours around Truckee/Tahoe.
