SWAP → out your old gear at the Start Haus Ski Consignment Sale in Truckee, September 1st - 4th. It’s time to clear out the garage, unload the attic, and bring in your used skis! Customers line up around the block early to snap up the best gear, so don’t miss out on this opportunity to purge the old gear and get yourself some new sticks. As always, Start Haus is accepting used and new skis, new bindings, and race suits in good condition.
DRINK → at Squaw Valley for their annual beer and wine festivals. Foam Fest starts September 2nd which will be an afternoon filled of beer tasting and live music on the KT Base Bar outdoor sun deck. Your ticket gives you access to unlimited tastings from over 40 craft breweries and world-class live music by Ozomatli. All proceeds from the event will benefit Achieve Tahoe. Then switch to wine at the Alpen Wine Fest on September 3rd. The Alpen Wine Fest includes wine tasting, live music, a huge silent auction and raffle. Entry into the event is a donation to Can Do MS, a foundation providing wellness and education for people with Multiple Sclerosis. With a donation for your wine tasting ticket, attendees receive a crystal souvenir wine glass and tastings from over 40 vineyards.
COOK → with Tahoe Food Hub at their Pitchfork and the Pan: Pop-up Farm Dinner Series. Tahoe Food Hub brings the farm to you in two unique locations: Private lakefront estate with Chef Ben Deinken on September 7th and Lost Trail Lodge with Chef Billy McCullough on September 19th. Chef and farmer will work together to grow and prepare a 4-course meal filled with seasonal produce and proteins. Each dinner will spotlight the produce of one farm and feature a local rancher and California wine. Come meet the farmers who grow our food, hear their story and celebrate in the harvest.
TASTE → Lake Tahoe’s most prestigious food, wine, spirit and brew at the Autumn Food and Wine Festival, September 8th - 10th at Northstar. The festival features celebrity chef’s hands-on cooking demonstrations, Farm to Tahoe dinner, winemaker luncheons and dinners, food and wine seminars, mixology . . . all topped off with the Sunday Culinary Competition and Grand Tasting.
HIKE → with the Trails and Vistas Art Hikes September 9th and 10th for a beautiful experience featuring music, dance, poetry and art. Hikers will experience a magical series of site-specific art & performances various artists along some of Tahoe’s prettiest trails.
VOTE → for the best chicken wings and bands at Guitar Strings VS. Chicken Wings September 15th at Squaw Valley. A battle of epic proportions: 6 restaurants and 5 bands will go head-to-head in the Village to benefit the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science (TINS). Each restaurant will be cooking their own signature recipes for spicy, flavor-packed chicken wings, and joining forces with the region’s best bands to crank the contest to the max. Chicken and music lovers are not going to want to miss a single stop on this around-the-valley face off.
GET FESTIVE → at two different Oktoberfests this year. Stop by Squaw Valley on September 23rd to start the party by escaping to a miniature Bavaria complete with authentic German beer and food, Bavarian music, the ever-popular Oktoberfest Games and plenty of family fun. Then head to Tahoe City on September 30th for craft beers from Lagunitas, Auburn Ale House, Sierra Nevada Brewing, Common Ciders; wine from Barefoot Wine & Bubbly; food from local vendors including Men Wielding Fire, Crepe Hearts, Big Blue BBQ and Truckee Sourdough (pretzels); live music featuring Truckee’s Coburn Station; and Bavarian themed games including the traditional stein holding contest, a Weiner toss and keg rolling. SUPPORT ART → at North Tahoe Art’s fundraiser, Monet’s Table on September 23rd. Guests will enjoy 180 degree views of Lake Tahoe and expansive landscaped grounds while browsing displays of art available for purchase. Tables will be set with picnic baskets containing snacks, salads and cookies and a gourmet buffet assortment of luncheon items will also be available.
The art for sale includes pieces donated directly from artists and from personal collections of North Tahoe Art supporters who want to pass on artwork for another to enjoy. Art experiences and workshops will also be available for purchase.
CHALLENGE YOURSELF → at the Truckee Marathon on September 24th or at the Spartan Races at Squaw September 30th-October 1st. The Truckee Marathon features three races (Marathon, Half Marathon, and Marathon Relay) that all start and finish in Historic Downtown Truckee. This fall event truly showcases the diverse beauty of Sierra landscapes and give runners a taste of Truckee. On September 30th, choose from the Spartan Beast, Spartan Ultra Beast, or Spartan Kids race. Each race offers miles of challenging obstacles to put racers through the ultimate test in the hopes of becoming the Spartan Race World Champion. More information can be found on Spartan.com.

Join Truckee-based professional photographer Grant Kaye on a casual walk around the beautiful Martis Valley as he helps you build on foundations to fully unleash your creative vision. Learn strategies for better composition, pre-visualization, and the use of smartphone apps to anticipate sunset conditions. The class will also cover fundamentals of photography, including creative long exposures with slow shutter speeds, along with use of depth of field to bring your vision to life through photography.
