Truckee, A Foodie's Paradise!
Truckee is now a foodie's paradise! With so many options, from gourmet to casual and from burgers to foie gras, guaranteed you will find something you love. Here are some of our favorite Truckee restaurants. Bon appetit!
Pianeta is hands-down our favorite place for Italian in Truckee. The restaurant, which has served the community for the past 15 years, has won the Best Of Award in 2017 and was runner-up in 2016 for Best Restaurant. The intimate, two-story restaurant serves a delicious take on Italian favorites as well as a very generous list of fine wines and cocktails. We love grabbing a seat at the bar for their awesome happy hour options (only Monday-Friday, 5-6pm) or one of their intimate tables for special occasions. You must try their homemade pastas and a big slice of tiramisu. Find more information and a full menu on their website.
Taco’s Jalisco is a local’s favorite and our pick for a quick bite. This family-owned taco joint has been serving up dishes like Chile Verde, Carne Asada Burritos, and Chile Relleno. We often reward ourselves with a giant carne asada burrito and chips after a long day of skiing or hiking. And don't miss the house specialty, a sizzle clay post called the Armadillo. Truckee Tavern is the “sophisticated American cuisine restaurant with a rustic feel” that has won a Best Of award for both Best Restaurant and Best Bar. Their dinner menu includes burgers, fantastic cuts of grilled meat, and house-made pasta dishes. We love relaxing on their second story patio during the summer. But their real specialty? COCKTAILS! Their drink menu is out of this world with house specials like the Pollock (bourbon, Batavia, arrack, aquavit, beet/orange cordial, and lemon) or the Salvador (rye, mezcal, lemon, blood orange, and egg whites). Their secret to a great drink are their house made syrups and unique recipes. Visit their website for more information.
MakiAli wins our hearts and stomachs with their intense variety of sushi options. Their motto: “To serve up the freshest, tastiest sushi, and other Asian bites, with the friendliest service.” We also love that their owners want to foster a great relationship with the community! Our smiling faces and full bellies can attest to our commitment to their sushi. Some favorites include the Hamachi Sashimi, Mountain Run Roll, Weaverville Roll, and the Gyoza. Find them all at their brick and mortar location on Donner Pass Road (next to the DMV) or at their traveling food truck. Menu and more information can be found on their website.
What a better way to spend the morning than at Donner Lake Kitchen. Right across the street from its namesake, this breakfast spot has been operating since the mid-1970s. We cannot get enough of their Huevos Rancheros! It's served with beans, eggs, cheese, olives, mushrooms, tomatoes, green onion, avocado, salsa, and sour cream with an option to add their delicious Chorizo (which we always do!). Other favorites are their stuffed French toast (which is a rotating special) and their Biscuits and Gravy. Afterwards, we always walk to the lake to help burn off all those delicious calories. Find their menu on their website.
Thai Delicacy is your place if you are craving Asian food. With an affordable menu and authentic feel, this is a weekly favorite spot for a quick dinner. We suggest that you start your meal with their Fresh Summer Rolls – mixed veggies, tofu, cilantro, sweet basil, wrapped in a rice noodle and served with peanut sauce. So fresh and delicious! Their menu features traditional dishes as well as specialty dishes like Avocado Curry, Honey Crispy Duck, and Chicken Curry Pop. You can find Thai Delicacy at 11253 Brockway Road, next to Drunken Monkey Sushi. Get the full menu on their website.
