Your Guide to the 4th of July in Truckee


It’s no secret that Truckee and the shores of Donner Lake provide the quintessential 4th of July experience. If it wasn’t enough that Truckee is an incredible destination in July, it’s also home to multiple fireworks shows and a magnitude of 4th of July events.

Whether you're spending the day on a lake, grilling in the backyard, or enjoying live music, fireworks and parades, Truckee is the best place to spend your 4th of July. To ensure you don't miss anything we have rounded up our favorite Truckee events in our guide to the 4th of July (and sharing our locals secrets)!

Beerfest and Bluegrass Festival  → Great beer and great music? You will find us here! Northstar California’s Beerfest & Bluegrass Festival is one of our top summer events. Taking place Saturday, July 1, this year’s festival features 3 bluegrass bands and more than 30 breweries. What’s more, you can get the Brewmaster Dinner combo ticket, which includes entrance the following evening for a five-course beer and food pairing with Great Basin Brewing Company on the patio of Martis Valley Grille at sunset.

The Firecracker Mile → A one-mile, gravity fed, fun event for all ages and abilities right before the annual Truckee Fourth of July Parade. The course is all downhill and follows the route of the parade downtown on Donner Pass Rd, ending where the parade ends with a left turn onto Bridge Street. Truckee 4th of July Parade → The annual Truckee 4th of July Parade takes place in Historic Downtown Truckee and runs from 10 AM - 1 PM. Plus, the town is offering Free Shuttles between Downtown Truckee and Truckee neighborhoods.
Locals tip - catch the parade from Truckee Tavern, the bar and outdoor patio will be open from 9:30 AM - 1 PM.

Fireworks at Donner Lake →  Shooting off from the West End Beach, the Donner Lake Fourth of July fireworks show and celebration is not to be missed.  While it's a ticketed event to watch the fireworks from the West End Beach. Live music, games and food will happen al day, with the fireworks show when it gets dark
Locals tip - find a spot near one of the overlooks or trails above Donner Lake. Bring a blanket and picnic. This affords the unique opportunity to see a fireworks display from up above.

Squaw Valley's Freedom Fest - From July 1st - 4th, celebrate summer skiing and the Independance Day with a music and ski festival at Squaw Valley! The Freedom Fest consists of 3 days of live music mid-mountain, paying tribute to the 1991 concert by the Jerry Garcia Band that took place near this location. Even more music daily at the High Camp pool & hot tub, FREE shows at KT Base Bar and a fireworks show on Monday evening following the free show by Big Head Todd and the Monsters!
