The Bar Effect is the Workout to End All Workouts

I love the people [at Bar Effect]!! I feel like I’m meeting awesome new ladies every week. Truckee is such a cool place to live with so much to do.

Inspired by a life-altering physical therapy workout, Michelle Rahlves started the Bar Effect in Truckee. Now, nearly a decade later, the TRX, Pilates, and Barre studio have locals singing their praises: “I started the Bar Effect four months prior to [knee] surgery...my surgeon, physical therapist, as well as anesthesiologist are all amazing at my quick recovery.” After talking with Rahlves, we realized what an incredible force she is (small business owner, trainer, and mom of 10-year-old twins!) and how lucky Truckee is to have her.

As a 20 year Truckee resident, Rahlves understands that one of the most important things to an athlete, professional or armature, is the health of their knees. Especially with skiers. Her experience with physical therapy “gave me my life back after 12 knee surgeries from years of completion snowboarding,” Rahlves says. Now, her mission is to pay it forward to others who are looking for good ways to workout without sacrificing their precious joints and ligaments. The Bar Effect focuses greatly on low impact, full body workouts for anyone at any level. Rahlves describes it as, “small isometric movements set to music, elongating the muscle for a safe workout with a physical therapy background.” Her biggest inspiration remains to “help athletes smile again and watch woman after babies feel good and confident.”

The Bar Effect differs greatly from other gyms because of Rahlves extensive knowledge. She has experience as an Emergency Medical Technician, she is certified with the International Sports Science Association, and, after partnering up with the High Fives Foundation in 2011, she has experience working with injured athletes of all levels. The most compelling experience she has, though, is her own recovery. “After 8 years on the Snowboard Circuit,” Rahlves starts, “I rehabbed my knee of 9 surgeries with Bar workouts. The Bar Effect now allows [me to have] an active lifestyle with 10-year-old twins.”

Don’t be afraid to check out a Bar Effect class at their location in the Pioneer Center because, seriously “ANY ONE CAN DO BAR EFFECT.”  Be sure to follow them on Instagram or Facebook.
