What to do in February in Truckee

Happy February, Truckee! After an amazing #januBURIED, we know that you probably have skiing on the mind. While there’s nothing wrong with that — we’ll see ya out there! — there are so many fun things going on around Truckee this month that we recommend checking out.

SKI at Sugar Bowl’s Hump Day Hump on February 6th or at Tahoe Donner’s Cross Country Ski Challenge on the 10th. Sugar Bowl's Monthly Uphill Social a day filled with demos and clinics, a complimentary draft beer, and an Uphill Ticket! Visit Sugar Bowl’s website for more info! The Tahoe Donner Challenge is an annual tradition and fun challenge to ski what you think is the fastest route to multiple checkpoints on the XC trails. You can choose to ski to every checkpoint, or just pick one or two then compare your time with friends over a drink at Trailside Bar. All participants have a chance to win spot prizes on the trails. More information can be found here.

RAISE funds while raising the roof at a series of charity events this month. On February 8th, visit Riverside Studios for the Annual CR Johnson Memorial Lion Heart Art Show. Proceeds will go to the CR Johnson Healing Center, a program service of the High Fives Foundation. On the 9th, Achieve Tahoe is hosting the Ability Bash Gala to continue helping adaptive athletes build health and confidence. On the 16th, the Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe is hosting their 11th Annual Black Tie & Trails Gala. And, finally, all month long, the Tahoe SAFE Alliance will be selling $129 lift tickets to Vail Resorts, to benefit child survivors of abuse in North Lake Tahoe/Truckee.

CELEBRATE the season with the St Valentine Seasonal Wreath workshop at Atelier Truckee on February 15th. This class breaks the mold on wreath making. Sierra Valley's Aurora Wellise will teach the art of adorning your home with personally symbolic, powerful and visually beautiful botanic wreaths. The spirit of the plant we decorate our hearth and home with will become as important as how it looks. Aurora will discuss elements of plant folklore as applied to honoring the seasons, protecting the home and creating sacred space through seasons and holidays. Learn more and register for the class here.

PLAY at Squaw Valley’s Kid-O-Rama February 16th - 24th. This fun-filled event offers non-stop activities for kids of all ages. As part of Kid-O-Rama, kids can check out the Big Truck Event featuring fire trucks, snowplows, and grooming machines, as well as street parties and kids’ concerts, an all-kid game & craft room and many more events. Find a full schedule and more information here.

PARADE the slopes of Tahoe Donner’s Downhill Ski Resort on February 23rd for the Annual Glow Stick Parade and Carnival.
