Holiday Events in Truckee

What better place to get into the holiday spirit than Truckee? With Downtown decorated in lights and the Bud Fish tree officially lit for the season, Truckee has been transformed into a true winter wonderland. In addition to all our favorite winter past times, like skiing, ice skating, and snowshoeing, there are a plethora of fun, festive events this December to keep those spirits bright. Here are our must-do holiday events for the whole family!

WATCH the SWEP’s 4th annual Tahoe Film Festival December 6 - 9. This film festival will present 29 exciting American Independent, Latin American, and environmental feature films, like Momentum Generation, Bethany Hamilton: Unstoppable, and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Screenings will take place in Truckee, Northstar, Incline Village, and the Crystal Bay Club and will benefit SWEP – the Sierra Watershed Education Partnerships. For a schedule of time and full list of movies, visit the Tahoe Film Fest website.

MEET Santa at the Truckee Airport on December 8th. The jolly man himself and Mrs. Clause will be flying in to Truckee on a special plane to meet and greet Truckee. There will be hot chocolate, holiday treats, and more. Kids who meet Santa get special gifts, just make sure you are there on time to see him and the Misses fly in at 10am! More information can be found here.

CRAFT the night away at the Elves Workshop on December 9th. The Community Arts Center and Atelier Truckee are teaming up to create Santa’s workshop. Kids can choose from 6 different crafts to make gifts for friends and family. The workshop is not just for children, though. Parents can enjoy libations, a gift shop, and silent auction while the kids craft away. Everyone is encouraged to come hungry to enjoy seasonal soups, fresh breads, tea, coffee, and treats. More information can be found here.

BE MERRY at Merry Days and Holly Nights at Squaw Valley from December 14th - 31st. This two-week long celebration includes tons of family-friendly events every night, like horse-drawn sleigh rides and Santa sightings, as well as farm-to-table dinners and Toccata – Tahoe Symphony Orchestra. Since most activities and events are right in the Squaw village, it’s an easy way to go from the lifts to holiday cheer. For more information and a list of all events, visit the Squaw website.

SHOP in Downtown Truckee during Festive Fridays. For the first three Fridays of the month, downtown shops will stay open later and parking will be free after 4pm. Enjoy the festive lights decorating Downtown, special promotions, and amazing dining options. Learn more here.

WALK in a winter wonderland every Friday until December 21st for Northstar’s Noel Nights. The village will transform into a winter wonderland featuring horse-drawn sleigh rides, outdoor ice skating, pictures with Santa, s’mores, hot cocoa, and cozying up by the fire pits. Learn more on Northstar’s website.
