Memorial Day Weekend in Truckee & Lake Tahoe
Memorial Weekend, also known as Opening Day Weekend, marks the start of summer in Truckee and Lake Tahoe. With so many events and activities, this is one of our favorite times of year to get outside, clean up the yard and spend time with family and friends. Join us as we dance around Truckee and North Lake Tahoe at some great Memorial Day Weekend events.
Thursday, May 24th:
Squaw Creek Golf Course Opening. Links at Squaw Creek is opening for the 2018 golf season on May 24. Come challenge yourself at California's most beautiful valley golf course. Our May Spring Special: Play a round for only $75 until May 31.
Friday, May 25th:
Tahoe Donner Golf Course Opening. Enjoy the highest-elevation golf course in Tahoe and one of the premier public courses in the High Sierra. Set among towering pines and meandering creeks, this 18-hole, par-72 championship course offers 7,002 challenging yards from the longest of four tees. The narrow, tree-lined fairways and epic elevation changes embody the best of mountain golf, while the fast, soft and large greens are widely regarded as the finest in the region. Saturday, May 26th
The Truckee Bike Park is hosting the 7th annual Little Big Bike Festival and Skills Clinics on May 26th. This is a mountain bike festival for all - giving the region's biking community a way to celebrate and raise support for the Truckee Bike Park. This event continues to grow the sport by teaching individuals to be comfortable on their bike, have fun and create a foundation of fundamentals to progress in their riding. The event starts with a ladies skills clinic, organized and headed by Cortney Knudson (register early). Following the ladies and open next level clinics, the park will fill with events including the kid's strider/pumptrack jams, am & pro jump jams and am & pro dual-slalom along with food trucks, industry tents & live music with a DJ. Sunday, May 27th
Hike Lower Carpenter Valley with guides from the Truckee Donner Land Trust. This is an exclusive peek at the grand scenery, lush meadows, and blooming wildflowers of the protected Carpenter Valley. Guides will lead you on the hike while answering questions about the land and its inhabitants. The hike will be around 5 miles on mostly flat terrain at about 6200 feet in elevation. You should be able to hike about 2.5 hours at a moderate pace with some stops. Find more details on the Truckee Donner Land Trust website.
Monday, May 28th
Kayak in Tahoe under the full moon with a tour from Tahoe Adventure Company. Float in a kayak on the clear blue water while the sun sets the sky on fire, the full moon rises, and the stars twinkle. Increase your knowledge of astronomy with jaw-dropping views of Lake Tahoe illuminated by the light of the full moon. The paddle will be around two hours before landing on the beach to cap it all off with hot drinks, snacks, and more stargazing on the beach. Thursday, May 24th
Tahoe City Farmer’s Market returns to Commons Beach every Thursday until October 11th. Grab fresh fruits, veggies, and tasty treats from local farms and vendors. More information and full vendor lists can be found on the Farmer's Market website.
Saturday, May 26th
The Tahoe Mountain Sports Sales Rep Sample Sale happens Saturday, May 26th from 8am-3pm. The Truckee sports shop will take over the parking lot outside the shop (next to Ride-Aid and Safeway) and fill it with tons of new gear, shoes, and clothing at hugely discounted prices. There will be shoes, ski equipment, trekking poles, clothes, backpacks and hydration packs, avalanche airbags, camping gear, bikes, sunglasses and so much more from top brands. This event is open to the public and there is no admission fee. 10% of all proceeds go to the Auburn Ski Club Training Center - Nordic.

Friday, May 25th:
Celebrate with Sunnyside at their Deck Opening and 31st Anniversary Party. The fun starts at 11:30am on Friday, May 25. Enjoy live music featuring Free Peoples from 3-8pm and a raffle & silent auction throughout the day full of killer prizes. Plus, Truckee Tahoe Radio will be broadcasting live from the deck and April Martin from EarthyLuxe Jewelry will join us with a pop-up shop/trunk show. Raffle and silent auction proceeds to benefit the Sunnyside Scholarship fund through our Legacy of Aloha charitable program. Celebrate the Grand Opening of the Tahoe Maritime Museum and Gardens in its new location on West Shore. The launch party features two new exhibitions, The T-Files: The Search for Tessie and the Dealers of Dreams, and an evening of art, history, cocktails, and hors-d'oeuvres by Men Wielding Fire. The Museum and Gardens strive to encourage an interest in, increase knowledge of, and maintain watercraft and marine artifacts significant in Lake Tahoe’s maritime history through the highest standards of historic preservation, innovative interpretation, and public education.
