November Fall Update from Truckee, California

It’s Thursday, November 29th and we woke up to a blanket of snow this morning. The local lifts are running and the snow showers look to continue throughout the day!

Truckee in Winter

November was a devastating month in California with the southern California fires and the Campfire in Paradise. Our hearts go out to the thousands who lost their homes and community. Small irritations and holiday stresses fall to the wayside as we are filled with gratitude for friends, family and health this season. People coming together with donations, housing, resources and support is what this time of year is all about.

There are typically a lot more complaints when long overdue moisture is rain instead of snow but after the fires and smoke we are grateful for whatever wet weather we get. The recent rain and high elevation snow felt like an early gift from Mother Nature after such a dry summer and fall. That said, you won’t get through a coffee shop without hearing some discussion on the upcoming ski season and resort openings. Fingers crossed for lower temperatures and lots of powder days!

If cutting down a tree is one of your traditions and you have a permit, we applaud you! Word on the street is that they sold out before Thanksgiving this year. If you missed the chance, you can find my son Colby and I at the Mountain Hardware christmas tree lot, raising money for the Boy Scouts Troop 267. This year they cut down trees near Webber Lake and they are beautiful!

So what’s coming in December? As always, KJM looks forward to parties, traditions and community events so be sure to check out our blog post on local happenings and our annual Truckee gift guide. Shopping local has never been better in Truckee and Tahoe!
