What's Happening This October in Truckee
October brings all of the things we love most about fall to Truckee. The leaves are changing, the weather is getting cooler, and curling up by the fire never sounded better. This year, like many recent years, October does not mean that things will be slowing down for our little mountain town. On the contrary, there’s plenty happening this month that you won’t want to miss out on.
Remember to check out the inaugural Fall Into Art, a festival celebrating Truckee’s Cultural District, all month long. We’re really looking forward to the Downtown Truckee Wine, Walk & Shop and live music. Find out more on Fall Into Art here.
SHOP at the last couple of Truckee Tuesday Farmers Markets. The last Famers’ Market of the season will be October 15th, so make sure to get out to the Truckee Regional River Park for fresh produce, flowers, crepes, baked goods, fish, meat, olive oil, and handmade artisan goods. See a full list of participating vendors here.
CRUISE the pristine shores of Lake Tahoe on the 5th at Sierra State Parks Foundation’s A Liar’s Cruise: Tall Tales from Tahoe. Enjoy spellbinding stories, a scrumptious feast of never-ending hors d’oeuvres and bottomless bubbly while slowly travel along Tahoe’s West Shore on the fabulous Tahoe Gal. A live auction of marvelous treasures and experiences will be offered, benefiting the Sierra State Parks Foundation. Learn more and reserve your spot here.
CELEBRATE the fall season on the 12th at the 10th Annual Fall Festival at Tahoe Donner. One of Tahoe Donner's biggest events of the year, this family-friendly harvest festival offers something for everyone and is the perfect community event to celebrate autumn in the High Sierra. Enjoy a day of special performances, live music, costume competition, kids carnival area, arts and crafts vendors, a pumpkin patch, pony rides, seasonal beer offerings, Oktoberfest-inspired food and more! Learn more here.
LEARN, hands-on, about big trucks and the important jobs they have in our community at the 11th Annual Big Truck Day on the 19th. Bring the whole family by the new Town Corporation Yard for a hands-on, up-close day with heavy equipment. Climb in, hop on, honk the horns, and learn about some big trucks. This event is always a “truck-load” of fun for families! Learn more here.
GIVE BACK to the land we love so much on the 20th by joining the Truckee River Watershed Council for a day of river, meadow and wetland restoration. You will be working side-by-side with other volunteers to plant restoration sites with seedlings and willows, mulch sensitive areas, and more from Tahoe City to Donner Summit to Truckee and beyond. If you would like to participate, register here before October 16th.
MARCH forth with your best costume on Oct 25th for the annual Truckee Halloween Parade. This parade is for children of all ages. The parade goes through Downtown Truckee to the Community Arts Center then Trick-or-Treat through the Community Art Center for candy! The parade leaves the Truckee Train Station at 6 pm sharp, so don’t be late! Learn more about the parade here.
