Fall walks through Martis Valley might be our favorite fall activity!

Labor Day usually marks the end of summer in Truckee and Tahoe, but that doesn't mean that the good times stop. In fact, Fall is one of our favorite seasons in Truckee. The summer crowds and weather start to cool off, meaning an easier time getting around and enjoying the great outdoors. There are so many events and activities happening this month that it was hard to pick our top must-dos. If you want to see more going on this month, we encourage you to visit but we think you'll love these family-friendly, foodie-oriented, September events!

GIDDY UP at Tahoe Donner’s Wild West Fest on September 1st. Open to the public as well as Tahoe Donner members, this end-of-summer event is filled with dancing, live music, entertainment, equestrian performances, photo booths, and a Western-style BBQ dinner. This will be a great way to celebrate Labor Day weekend with the whole family. Event schedule and tickets are available on the Tahoe Donner website.

TASTE some of the area’s finest chefs and renowned winemakers at the Lake Tahoe Autumn Food and Wine Festival, September 7th - 9th.  Northstar will be buzzing with cooking seminars, culinary competitions, wine tastings, live music, gourmet marketplace, and mountaintop dinners. The seminars range from intimate on-mountain tastings to large-scale, gastronomic celebrations. This is an event that all our Truckee foodies and wine connoisseurs cannot miss. Find tickets, more information, and event schedules here.

HIKE alongside amazing art at this year’s Trails and Vistas, September 8th - 9th. Trails & Vistas brings artists, dancers, and musicians to Truckee to celebrate the arts in nature and on the two guided hiking days, you can experience it all with an amazing Donner Summit backdrop. Guides will lead three-hour long guided interactive hikes starting in 15-minute increments winding through 12 site-specific art installations. Along the hikes, enjoy music, performance art, ephemeral sculpture and literary art pieces. Find more information and tickets here.

CELEBRATE Truckee’s birthday! On September 8th, the Truckee community is invited to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Town of Truckee’s incorporation and 155 years since its first establishment with a major town picnic at Donner Lake West End Beach. The Picnic will offer free food, music from Richard Blair, The Streets of Truckee, and the Berm Brothers, as well as a new town community photo. To alleviate parking hassle, there will be transportation available from Truckee neighborhoods. More information can be found here.
