What's Going on in Truckee This August
August it a great time to enjoy summer in Truckee. There are gorgeous wildflowers blooming (here are some fun hikes to peep them on) and the summer traditions, like Truckee Thursdays and weekly music concerts. This month, if you need a break from lake days or adventures on the trail, check out these fun events for the whole family.
READ some awesome new books after attending the annual Friends of the Truckee Library fundraising book sale on the 3rd. Visit the Tahoe Truckee School District offices in the gymnasium to find great low prices on tons of children’s books, fiction, and non-fiction. WINE vs BEER is taking over West Shore Cafe! Make it to the last event in the summer series on the 7th which will be the ultimate showdown between all the wine and beers included in the 5-week-long series. Join in the fun by tasting your way through 8 samplings of wine and beer with food pairings. The winning pairing will be chosen by the public along with a panel of judges, including a cicerone and sommelier. Whoever has the best pairing wins the ultimate title. STAY COOL at Tahoe Donner’s Waterpalooza on the 10th. Gather your family, call your friends and put on your swimsuit for the return of Waterpalooza, a day of fun water games and activities to help you stay cool in the heart of summer. TOAST the summer at Squaw Valley’s Brews, Jazz and Funk Fest on the 10th. Festival-goers can sip on a wide array of tasty beers from over 20 different breweries, as well as enjoy an incredible lineup of music both days. SKATE the Lake to raise funds for B4BC’s education, prevention and survivorship programs on the 16-17th. The 15th Annual Skate the Lake starts in Tahoe City, and participants are encouraged to skate, bike, or roller blade the 28-mile course along the majestic shores of Lake Tahoe and the beautiful Truckee River. The event is a collective ride for breast cancer awareness and prevention and participants are encouraged to ride in honor of a loved one who is or has battled breast cancer. WATCH movies every Thursday this month in the Village at Squaw Valley. Bring the whole family and snuggle up under the stars while enjoying new releases and family classics on the big screen in the Events Plaza. A different movie shows every summer Thursday. FAMILY NIGHT in Northstar California’s village every Tuesday night for Family Skate Night. Get the family out of the house for some roller skating, good music, family fun, games and more. Starting at 3pm, skate rentals are available at a two for the price of one discount. Live music starts at 4pm and will have you dancing around the rink until 7pm.
